Complete Padel Court Construction Checklist

Work through five phases in order: site and feasibility, design and specification, procurement, construction, then handover and maintenance. Each phase has items that are cheap to check early and expensive to discover late.

Use this as a working checklist. Most padel projects that go wrong go wrong because something on it was assumed rather than confirmed.

Phase 1 — Site and feasibility

  • Plot measured, not estimated — length, width and any irregularity
  • Levels surveyed across the whole working area
  • Ground conditions established
  • Drainage route identified and capacity confirmed for peak rainfall
  • Clear height confirmed for covered or indoor builds, including services
  • Vehicle and crane access checked along the actual approach route
  • Power supply capacity confirmed
  • Permitted land use and any approvals confirmed with the local authority

Phase 2 — Design and specification

  • Court count and layout fixed, including circulation
  • Orientation checked against low morning and evening sun
  • Phase-two expansion position reserved
  • Base type specified: reinforced or porous concrete
  • Steel specification and galvanising standard written down
  • Wind loading confirmed for the structure
  • Glass thickness and fixing system specified
  • Turf type, pile height and infill specified
  • Lighting layout designed for uniformity, with a lux target stated

Phase 3 — Procurement

  • Quotes broken into the five packages, not a lump sum
  • Exclusions listed explicitly on every quote
  • Lead times confirmed for imported glass and turf
  • Glass breakage allowance agreed
  • Payment schedule tied to delivery milestones
  • Warranty terms on structure, glass, turf and lighting in writing

Phase 4 — Construction

  • Setting out checked against drawings before concrete is poured
  • Falls verified before the base is signed off
  • Sub-base compaction verified
  • Structure squareness and level checked before glass arrives
  • Glass installed with certified fixings and torque checked
  • Turf seams inspected and infill level confirmed
  • Lighting commissioned and uniformity checked on court, not on paper

Phase 5 — Handover and maintenance

  • As-built drawings and electrical certificates handed over
  • Warranty documents collected
  • Maintenance schedule agreed: brushing frequency and infill top-up
  • Spare glass panel and fixings held on site or lead time confirmed
  • Structure and fixing inspection interval set
  • Staff briefed on what to check weekly

Frequently Asked

Verifying falls and drainage before the base is signed off. It is nearly free to check at the right moment and extremely expensive to correct afterwards.
